Species text
There are confirmed records for only six vice-counties, and only two recently, West Kent and South Essex from 1970 onwards. Hammond (1999) lists records from two post 1969 ten squares in Essex. Larvae develop in either dead wood or plant stems, probably the latter. Management and conservation for the species is uncertain, though trees, and both fallen and standing dead timber, especially with the bark attached, should be retained. The removal of dead timber from trees should be avoided. The presence of nectar sources such as umbellifers and composite herbs may also be particularly important for this species (Hyman & Parsons, 1992). References
